Feelwell's Nutritionally Complete Dog Food - Review

Feelwell's are a family company based in North Yorkshire who produce a range of healthy, probiotic dog food and treats.  They pride themselves on producing food and treats that are natural, healthy, and hypo-allergenic yet still very tasty for your beloved pet.  Recently Bandit and Skipper were lucky enough to try the Feelwell's Complete Dry dog food range.  Let's find out how they got on.

The Feelwell's adult complete food comes in two varieties - venison and duck.  Both varieties are suitable for any adult dog of any size or breed.  The food is hypo-allergenic, holistic and is wheat, gluten, dairy, soya, beef, egg and rice free as these ingredients are known to cause allergic reactions in dogs.

Bandit and Skipper loved both the venison and the duck varieties.  The venison flavour proved to be a huge hit with both dogs, possibly because they'd never tasted any venison food before.  The kibble was of a good size - not too big so that it was difficult to eat and not too small so they had to chew and not swallow it whole (which Skipper often does, causing him choke).  Bandit can often get bored half-way through a bowl of food and  wander off and leave it - but he certainly didn't want to leave any of this behind, the bowl was licked clean!

Feelwell's complete food is made using barley, oats and peas as these food are lower on the GI index .  This means they take longer to digest than rice and similar ingredients and therefore, the dog feels fuller for longer between meals and the energy is released more slowly.

This food certainly seemed to benefit Skipper's sensitive stomach. His stools were firmer and slightly less whiffy!  They both looked really well on this food, with glossy coats, shining eyes and good skin.  It may sound strange but they generally looked sparkier and healthier!  This was after just a week on the food, I imagine the transformation would be even greater after a longer period.

Feelwell's also produce a Puppy variety of the food in duck flavour.  This provides all the essential nutrients for your puppy, and stimulates the growth of healthy, friendly bacteria.  Feelwell's puppy food can be fed to any size or breed of puppy and gives them a healthy start to life.

Feelwell's are also on the PETA list of Ethical Pet Food Suppliers, as they do not test products or ingredients on animals. They are also proud to be among the founder members of The Campaign for Real Pet Food which is working hard to promote the use of good quality ingredients in pet food.

Our overall impressions of the Feelwell's range of food is very positive.  Healthy dogs foods are often seen as being unappealing, but the reactions of Bandit and Skipper prove that this food certainly is tasty.  What more can you ask of a dog food - tasty, healthy and natural - it has it all!

Three years ago I had no home - now I have my own armchair!

Hello! Henry here!

I've had a nice, quiet day relaxing in my favourite chair.  It's amazing to think that at this time three years ago I was all alone in kennels, I had no family or home to call my own.  Now I have a family that love me, a nice home and my very own comfy armchair!  I feel very lucky, but Mummy says she's the lucky one!

Here I am having a nice rest.  Sorry I look a bit dozy - mummy woke me up taking my photo!

Don't Cook Your Dog!!

Every year dogs in cars are cooked – literally, from the inside.  Dogs Today magazine have started a new campaign to try to prevent more sad deaths of beloved pets.  The need for a fresh campaign was identified shortly after the most recent tragic deaths of the two police dogs.

News of the campaign quickly spread via social media and was even backed by Twitter supremo Stephen Fry who retweeted how people could get their own posters and stickers.

I recently witnessed police having to break into two cars in the popular tourist village that I live in here in Devon.  Thankfully prompt action from on-lookers and the police ensured these dogs were ok, but others might not be so lucky.

Please take a look at the Don't Cook Your Dog website where you can find out more about the campaign and how you can help.

Tetley Redbush Tea - Review

Tetley Redbush Tea is a naturally caffeine free hot drink that can be drunk just like your normal cuppa.
I'll be totally honest here and admit that when the sample pack of Tetley Redbush landed on my doormat I was a bit dubious about whether or not I'd like it.  I tend to be more of a cold drink person and rarely drink hot drinks - and if I do it's usually coffee!

But on a hot Sunday afternoon I saw the packet in the cupboard and though I'd give it a try - and I'm glad I did!  You can drink this tea with or without milk, with lemon, honey or sugar. I tried it on it's own as I don't tend to like milk and Redbush tea is naturally quite sweet so doesn't really need sugar.  It was a pleasant, refreshing drink, just as thirst quenching as a cold drink.  Being caffeine free means you can drink it in unlimited quantities without any adverse effects on your health.  Teltley Redbush is also packed with natural antioxidants making this a great healthy alternative to your regular hot drink

I was pleasantly surprised with this product - I might just be converted to tea!

Wagg Tasty Bones Dog Treats - review

Henry and his friends were so excited about reviewing these Wagg Tasty Bones Dog Treats that they were literally jumping for joy!  But before we let them and their taste buds loose on these chicken and liver treats we had a good read of the packaging to see exactly what had got them so excited!

I was particularly impressed to see that these treats had no added sugar (Henry is already sweet enough!), artificial colours or flavours.  With Skipper still being a pup he is already hyper enough with-out adding any artificial colourings into the mix, so that was reassuring to see.  That they were enriched with vitamins and minerals was an extra bonus, making these a delicious and healthy treat for all three dogs.

Right lets get to the all important taste test!  Tasting today were Henry, Bandit and Skipper.  Being the fussiest of the three I was especially interested to see what Skipper would make of them.  The treats themselves were a good size - not too big and not too small.  An ideal size to use as a reward for being good or during training sessions.

All three dogs were obviously impressed, especially Bandit who gobbled his up quickly and asked for more.  His taste buds were so excited they had him spinning round and round, waiting impatiently for his turn to try the next treat!  Meanwhile Skipper, who's usually fussy, was jumping up and down with joy!

As you can probably see from the photos, our gang gave these oven baked treats a resounding thumbs up (or should that be 'paws' up!).  At only £1 for a 150g packet these are a real bargain, and we would highly recommend them.

Please check out the Wagg website where you can find out about the other delicious treats and complete dry dog foods in their range.

Competition - WIN Avon Skin So Soft hand cream and body lotion

Avon Skin So Soft - Soft & Replenishing Body Lotion

This body lotion is a great budget moisturiser that 'restores and maintains skin's optimal moisture balance with 24-hour moisturisation'.  It has a lovely fragrance that is not overwhelming like some moisturisers I've tried, and rubs in easily.  I've got very dry, sensitive skin and I find this kept my skin soft and moisturised.  Currently for sale at £3.40 at www.avonshop.co.uk this is a great bargain buy!

Avon Skin So Soft - Soft & Replenishing Body Lotion
This is a lovely hand cream which worked really well on my dry hands, leaving them soft and well moisturised.  It rubs in well and doesn't feel too greasy, and your hands are left smelling beautiful!  It really made a difference to the appearance of my hands, and felt like a real treat. At just £3.10 this is a good buy.

Bandit in Dogs Today Magaine - Pro Plan review

Bandit has his moment of fame this month, as he is in Dogs Today magazine as part of a Pro Plan promotion.

In the spring Bandit took part in a dog food trial for Pro Plan which went really well.  We found that he loved the food and his health improved.  Here is our review which appeared in the magazine -

"We adopted Bandit just over a year ago from rescue kennels, where he’d been for six months. He’s a very active dog and we have had problems keeping him at his ideal weight as he loses weight so easily. Overall he was in good health but he did suffer from dry, flaky patches on his skin. When we started the PRO PLAN trial we were pleased to see him enjoying his food so much and excitedly wagged his tail everytime he saw the PRO PLAN bag. His overall body condition has really improved, he is back to his ideal weight and the formula has been good for his digestion. We’ve also noticed a huge difference in his skin and coat, the flaky, itchy patches have cleared up and his coat is thick and glossy. We are thoroughly impressed with PRO PLAN, it’s a quality food and it really suits Bandit."

Dogs 4 Adoption rescue - where I come from!

Hello Henry here again! Here's a bit of my story-

In 2008 I found myself in alot of trouble.  My owner stopped caring for me - leaving me alone for days on end.  After neighbours complained about the noise I made he took me to a boarding kennels saying he was going on holiday.  However he never came back for me.

As you can imagine I was very scared and confused, but the kennel staff looked after me well.  I had infected ears, bad skin, a matted coat and was very thin.  It took a while for me to get back to full health, but soon I was ready to look for my new home.

When I came home with mummy and the rest of my family, I was so happy.  I got very attached to them though and didn't like to be left alone or for doors to be shut - I was scared I was going to be abandoned again!  Three years later I'm a happy well adjusted dog.  Sadly there are lots of dogs at the kennels who are not as lucky as me and still need new homes.

Please take a look at the Dogs 4 Adoption at St Giles Kennels website to see if you can offer one of these dogs a new home.

Meet the gang!

Hello everyone!

This is Henry here, I'd like to say 'hello' and introduce you all to my doggy family.

Skipper - aka Trouble!
Skipper is one of my Uncle Alan and Aunty Sarah's dogs.  He is an 11 month old lurcher and is bundle of fun and mischief!  Since he was little he has loved giving me kisses and swinging from my ears - sometimes I have to tell him off, but I still love him!

Bandit - aka Bandicoot!

Bandit is my Uncle Alan and Aunty Sarah's other lurcher.  Like me and Skipper he is also a rescue dog, who had a tough start in life. Bandit is lovable mixture of crazy and lazy!  He zooms around - he's much faster than me! - but then loves to curl up in my favourite chair for a snooze.

And finally this is me with my mummy!
